ACROSS THE DIAGONAL FARM

Development of a Lipizzan

1999 Foals by Maestoso II Favoressa III- Romeo and Preciosa

2000 Filly by Maestoso II Favoressa III- Milagra

Lipizzaners change quite dramatically between birth and adulthood- even more so than most horses.  This page may give you an idea how yours may develop over time, should you purchase a young horse.  These animals should not be worked extensively under saddle until age 4.  They may continue to grow-  until age 5 or 6, though they may reach full height before then.

Below is the development of Romeo.  Two more pages chronicle the development of

Preciosa and Milagra

Romeo lightened very quickly during his first year; while his half-sisters stayed dark much longer.  Like many Lipizzaners, he went through something of an 'ugly duckling' phase before maturing into a handsome young stallion with a great deal of presence.
