Troop History

flying landing raven

(Troop 60's history prior to its being re-chartered in 1997 is not known).

In the closing months of 1996 the genesis of Troop 60's re-chartering blossomed.   Parents of scouts who were in Troop 93 began the process of forming Troop 60.  They began the structure of who would fill what positions and what it would take to form a new Troop.  After many meetings the core leadership structure was formed and questions of what to do next were slowly being answered.

The Spreckels Volunteer Fire Department was contacted, the school authorities permission was obtained to use facilities, the Council was contacted, and the parents were made aware of what would transpire.  These  were just some of the early duties undertaken by the new adult leaders.

During the month of February 1997 meetings were held to get input from parents on how each would support the new troop and what the troop needed as far as basic equipment.  Items covered on February 20th 1997 included the tentative re-charter date of March 24, 1997, Troop training, Troop organization, Troop meeting structure, financial issues, equipment needs, camp schedules, where and when to have troop meetings, and the agenda for the next several months.  It was a busy and exciting time where hard work and the spirit of volunteering was about to produce a new Boy Scout Troop.

On March 24, 1997 there was a re-charter ceremony with Troop 93, Monterey Bay Area Council representatives, the Scouts and their parents.  There was a BBQ afterwards.  Troop 60 was now official!

Three years have passed since the re-charter.   Troop 60  has progressed because of the devotion of many individuals over those years.  Scouting only happens because of the time devoted by every volunteer.  Without that help a troop would not survive.  We thank all those volunteers in Troop 60's past, present, and future.

We continue to grow and should continue to do so, as a strong foundation for success was created by those volunteers!
